Is It A Bad Or Good Thing For Setting Very High Standards For Yourself In Study?

I set myself very high standards, that I seem to never reach, but i really think i can reach it. Does not setting high standards for yourself cause you to be very ambitious, and very motivated to reaching a goal.
How do I develop inner strength?

Where I can find such a chart? I guess books is one option but it’s rather heavy on the theory and other stuff. I probably need a clean defined timeline on a worksheet to work on to reach my target.
